US Tennis Open Roll Of Honour

Roll of Honour Mens Singles since 1988 is below;

The big question this year is whether Roger Federer can win the Mens Title for the sixth consecutive year in 2009?

If so he will become the only man in the Open era to have done so. Other five time winners of the US Open are the legendary Jimmy Connors, who also made the final a further two times and arguably the world's greatest ever tennis player, Pete Sampras. The last American to win the crown was Andy Roddick who won in 2003, he is seeded ? here this year. John McEnroe was a four time winner, but Ivan Lendl, who won the title three times, appeared in eight finals in succession between 1982 and 1989, winning in 1985/6/7

Roll of Honour Women's Singles since 1988:

In the early years of the Open era, the Women's title tended to be dominated by a few extra special players. For instance, Chris Evert, who has won the Title a staggering six times and has been runner-up a further three. In fact Chris, reached nine out of ten finals between the years of 1975 -1984. Martina Navratilove reached eight finals, winning and losing four each. Steffi Graf the brilliant German, also reached eight finals winning five of them. Recently however, the Tournament has been far more open with many players being good enough to win, in fact in the last ten years, there have been seven different winners. Five of those past winners will be gracing the courts again this year.
